On the basis of a large and modern experimental and investigation - methodical equipment as well as experience for many years in teaching and science in the field of gemmology, mineralogy and petrography, our expert and analytical activity covers a wide range of questions. Our laboratory investigation methods and devices cover:

  • the whole field of optical microscopy in reflected- and transmitted light, in bright-, dark- and boundary dark field,
  • especially the polarizing microscopy with special attachments, like measuring compensators, rotating cuvettes and universal rotating stage, as well as preparation of thin- and polished sections,
  • measurement of optical values (refractometry, reflectometry et al.)
  • absorption spectroscopy, especially in the Infrared with a Fourier - transforming (FTIR) device.

Further possibilities are connected with the use of scanning electron microscopy with EDX - system and X - ray powder diffractometry.

According to the character of the company, the investigation of diamonds is preferential. In simple cases it can give an assessment and certification of a cut diamond. The infrared - spectroscopic investigations give above all information about the amount of nitrogen content and their fixing in the nitrogen - aggregation forms A, B, B’ (platelets) and C. With this simultaneous follows an assignment to types, if the diamond is a type Ia- (IaA, IaB, IaA/B) or IIa - stone. At natural diamonds microscopically is recorded the surface topography, which allows statements concerning the morphogenetic type or by help of the trigons on dislocation densities. Analogous are determined internal microscopic defects, like inclusions, flags or microcracks and assessed concerning their behaviour of properties. For instance the observation of schlieren gives information on the existence of a Ia type and on the amount of nitrogen content. Investigation of interference patterns under crossed polarizers informs about deformations and stress distributions in the crystal. These investigations are made too with HPHT - treated diamonds. For nitrogen containing Ia - diamonds this way it is possible to find out, if the have got an irradiation (perhaps with additional thermal treatment) or a HPHT - treatment.

Investigations on gem stone determination can be made definite and in any way. This is valid not only for colour stones but also for synthetic stones, imitates, glasses and patterned materials. Out of the determination of the stones or materials, if desired with certificate, further details can be determined. So for instance kind and character of inclusions, which can allow statements concerning the origin. There is also experience in investigation of archaeological jewellery from minerals and glass.

A wide field offer the mineralogical - petrographic investigations of rocks under the polarization microscope. For this thin sections, polished sections or granular specimen are necessary, which can be prepared. This is also possible for numerous mineral or inorganic technical products, as for example asbestos, ashes, cinders or ceramic products as well as for archaeological artefacts from stone materials.

The results of investigations can be submitted as analytical data, as report or expert opinion.
